LAOAG CITY – Eight road safety teams from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) – Ilocos Region have been assigned to strategic areas to help ensure safe and orderly travel as motorists and commuters visit cemeteries and memorial parks to honor their departed loved ones on All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on Nov. 1 and 2.

In a statement on Saturday, the LTO-Ilocos Region said the initiative supports the government’s vision of zero road fatalities and responsible mobility for all during the anticipated increase in travel for this year’s Undas observance.

“May we ensure safe, orderly, and convenient travel for the motoring public through our prompt and dedicated assistance,” LTO Regional Director Glorioso Danue Martinez said during the send-off ceremony at the regional transportation office in San Fernando City, La Union on Friday.

The LTO’s Undas operation will run until Nov. 4.

Personnel of LTO’s Regional Law Enforcement Section are expected to monitor road safety compliance, assist travelers, and remind motorists to observe traffic regulations throughout the holiday period.

Information and education campaigns will also be conducted at transport terminals and in public areas to remind motorists and passengers to observe traffic regulations and practice responsible and defensive driving.

Motorists are encouraged to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy, observe speed limits, avoid distracted driving, and never drive under the influence of alcohol.

Drivers are also advised to plan their trips, allow sufficient travel time, and remain alert, particularly along busy roads and routes leading to cemeteries.
