The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned both the registered owner and the driver of a Toyota Vios involved in a series of alarming crashes in Noveleta, Cavite on Thursday.
According to LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, a show cause order has been issued to the vehicle’s male owner and the woman behind the wheel at the time of the incident. The agency is investigating what led to the chain of collisions — including one that injured multiple people.
“We received reports that the female driver lost consciousness during the incident,” Mendoza said Friday. “We are currently looking into the circumstances. Meanwhile, her license has been preventively suspended for 90 days while the investigation is underway.”
What happened?
The initial LTO probe revealed a chaotic sequence of events. The Vios was reportedly headed toward Cavite City when it suddenly accelerated, crashing into a vehicle from the opposite lane. Shockingly, the car then went into reverse, hitting several pedestrians and even smashing into a light post.
As if that weren’t enough, the vehicle made a sudden turn toward Noveleta town proper — only to crash again, this time into a parked tricycle.
At least five individuals, including the unconscious driver, sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Driver and vehicle under scrutiny
The LTO is demanding a notarized explanation from the driver, asking her to justify why her license should not be revoked for reckless driving and being unfit to operate a vehicle. The registered owner has also been asked to appear alongside her for the ongoing probe.
In the meantime, the LTO has flagged both the vehicle and the driver’s license, effectively placing them under “alarm status” to prevent any further legal transactions involving either while the investigation continues.
“We want to ensure that all motorists remain accountable for their actions on the road,” Mendoza emphasized.
