The Land Transportation Office (LTO) welcomed Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez’s directive for high-level transport officials to commute once a week to better understand the country’s public transportation system.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said the memorandum, issued Monday, serves as “a good feedback mechanism that would keep DOTr officials in touch with the realities of public transportation.”
“We assure Secretary Lopez of our full support and compliance, including the observations and recommendations to improve the transportation system in the country,” Mendoza added.
The order covers top officials of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and its attached agencies, including the road transport and rail sectors, from the LTO chief down to assistant regional directors. District and Satellite Office heads will also be included through a supplemental order.
“Magandang experience ito para sa lahat (This is a good experience for all) and through this, we are optimistic that we could come up with the best measures to improve the public transportation system in the country,” Mendoza said. He emphasized that officials will now be “at the frontlines through personal experience for us to really experience what we implement, and practice what we preach.”
