LAOAG CITY – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in the Ilocos Region has deployed eight road safety teams to strategic locations to ensure safe and orderly travel during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

In a statement Saturday, October 24, the LTO said the deployment aims to strengthen road safety monitoring and provide assistance to motorists and commuters traveling to cemeteries and memorial parks on November 1 and 2.

The initiative supports the government’s goal of achieving zero road fatalities and promoting responsible driving amid the expected increase in holiday travel.

LTO Ilocos Regional Director Glorioso Danue Martinez led the send-off ceremony at the regional transportation office in San Fernando City, La Union, on Friday.

“May we ensure safe, orderly, and convenient travel for the motoring public through our prompt and dedicated assistance,” Martinez said.

The LTO’s heightened road safety operations will continue until November 4.

Personnel from the agency’s Regional Law Enforcement Section will monitor compliance with traffic regulations, assist travelers, and remind motorists to observe road safety measures throughout the holiday period.

The LTO will also conduct information and education campaigns at transportation terminals and public areas to promote defensive driving and responsible road use.

Motorists were reminded to inspect their vehicles before traveling, follow speed limits, avoid using mobile phones while driving, and refrain from operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

Drivers were also encouraged to plan their trips, allow sufficient travel time, and remain alert, particularly along major roads and routes leading to cemeteries.

The LTO emphasized that cooperation among motorists, passengers, and traffic authorities is essential to preventing road accidents and ensuring a safe Undas observance.
