More public utility vehicle drivers and operators have received fuel assistance as the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) accelerated its distribution efforts nationwide.
The agency said each qualified beneficiary is entitled to Php 5,000, with payouts already reaching close to Php 1 billion across different regions.
The largest share of the funds was released in the National Capital Region, followed by allocations coursed through the LTFRB central office, Calabarzon, Central Visayas, Central Luzon, and Northern Mindanao.
LTFRB Chairperson Vigor Mendoza said the agency has been refining its system to speed up the transfer of funds down to the municipal level. He stressed the need for swift distribution as fuel prices continue to rise.
He added that regional offices have been directed to strengthen coordination with other government agencies and stakeholders to ensure efficient implementation.
The subsidy program covers drivers and operators of jeepneys, buses, UV Express units, taxis, transport network vehicles, and tricycles. Delivery riders and motorcycle taxi drivers are also included.
Mendoza said authorities are working closely with transport groups to validate beneficiaries and prevent irregularities in the process. He emphasized that safeguards are in place to ensure that only qualified recipients receive assistance.
The LTFRB said the initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to support the transport sector, with assurance that additional measures are being explored to help drivers cope with rising fuel costs.
