The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said it would recalculate the appropriate fare adjustment for public utility vehicles following requests from transport groups.
The review was ordered by Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez in response to Manibela’s appeal and PISTON’s pending petition for a P10 increase.
The LTFRB said the assessment would consider whether commuters could absorb higher transportation costs.
The agency would also examine the possible effect of a fare increase on inflation and the prices of basic goods and services.
Instead of granting a temporary adjustment based solely on current fuel prices, the board said it intended to issue a final ruling as soon as possible.
The LTFRB did not specify when the resolution would be released or how much of the requested increase might be approved.
While the review was underway, fuel discounts for public utility vehicle operators and drivers would remain available.
The board was also studying whether the program could cover more PUVs and provide a larger discount.
