The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has ordered its regional offices to prepare public transport advisories as Super Typhoon Bavi moves closer to the Philippine area of responsibility.
LTFRB Chair Vigor Mendoza said the directive covered regional offices in areas that could be affected by the weather disturbance.
He said the move followed the national government’s call for agencies to prepare for the possible effects of Bavi, which is expected to enter the country’s monitoring area by Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
Mendoza said regional franchising offices were instructed to coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management councils for public safety preparations.
He said the LTFRB had been monitoring the typhoon and was working to identify areas that could be affected, in coordination with Pagasa.
Bavi is expected to be named Inday once it enters the Philippine area of responsibility. While it may not make landfall, it could bring heavy rains and strong winds to parts of the country, particularly Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Luzon and the Visayas.
Mendoza said the LTFRB would issue travel advisories to transport operators, including buses, UV Express units and trucks, especially in areas where trips may be suspended.
He said regional offices were also directed to use their social media accounts to alert motorists and public utility vehicle drivers, while coordination would be made with the Department of Public Works and Highways on road closures and the Philippine Ports Authority on possible sea travel suspensions.
