The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) instructed its regional offices to conduct inspections of buses and public utility vehicles in preparation for the expected surge of travelers during Holy Week.

LTFRB chair Vigor Mendoza II said the directive formed part of the agency’s annual preparations for the religious observance, when large numbers of people travel to the provinces.

He noted that the seasonal movement of passengers would likely increase road activity, with more vehicles expected to operate nationwide.

The agency emphasized that inspections would focus on the roadworthiness of vehicles as well as the condition and readiness of drivers.

Mendoza said ensuring commuter safety remained a priority, along with protecting other road users during the peak travel period.

Regional officials were also directed to check whether transport terminals were complying with existing standards on passenger safety and comfort.

They were instructed to coordinate with local government units and law enforcement agencies to support the monitoring and enforcement efforts.

The move followed complaints about poorly maintained terminal facilities, which had already led to numerous notices of violations and orders requiring operators to explain lapses in compliance.
