The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has been directed to issue show cause orders against two transport operators that allegedly refused to provide free rides to commuters in Mabolo, Cebu City, despite the high demand for transportation during rush hour.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon ordered the LTFRB to require JP and Sons Transport Group Inc. and Aleja Fua Rent a Car to explain their refusal to participate in the free ride service.

The directive followed reports that the operators declined to accommodate commuters under the government’s free ride initiative while numerous passengers were waiting for available transportation in the area.

Dizon’s order was issued in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure the continuous delivery of free transportation services to commuters.

The show cause orders will give the operators an opportunity to explain their actions before the LTFRB determines whether further administrative measures are warranted.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) emphasized the importance of maintaining reliable transportation services, particularly during peak commuting hours when passenger demand is high.

The government has been implementing free ride initiatives to assist commuters and improve access to public transportation.

The LTFRB is expected to evaluate the explanations of the two operators and determine whether they failed to comply with applicable requirements under the free ride program.
