The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has put the brakes on dozens of buses operated by Victory Liner following a road mishap in Tuba, Benguet that left scores of passengers injured.
LTFRB chief Vigor Mendoza said the agency had summoned the bus firm and required it to explain why its franchise should not face penalties after two of its units figured in the crash.
The regulator said it had already secured initial police findings and was now evaluating possible administrative action against the operator.
Early reports indicated that one of the buses developed mechanical trouble while climbing a stretch of road and tailing a sport utility vehicle en route to La Union.
The situation escalated when the bus veered and collided with another company unit coming from the opposite lane, before hitting the SUV, crashing into a concrete barrier, and overturning.
The incident left more than 90 passengers hurt, with several treated for minor injuries while others remained under medical care.
Mendoza said the agency had ordered its regional office to check on victims and ensure that those hospitalized receive proper assistance.
He added that the LTFRB was coordinating with the bus company and its insurer to speed up compensation, while 26 of the firm’s units remain suspended pending the outcome of the probe.
