The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) is rallying behind the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, which the Philippines will proudly host from September 12 to 28. In a unique partnership, LRTA has transformed one of its LRT-2 trains into a moving billboard for the global sporting event.
The collaboration was officially launched on Tuesday with a celebratory train ride from Recto Station to the Santolan Depot in Pasig City. Commuters will now find themselves surrounded by vibrant promotional displays both inside and outside selected trains.
“This is not your ordinary train ride,” said LRTA Administrator Hernando Cabrera. “We wrapped an entire train for this historic event. The interiors are decked with materials that celebrate the championship, making it a one-of-a-kind promotional experience.”
The festive launch was attended by sports personalities and top officials, including Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairperson Patrick Gregorio, and Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) President Ramon “Tats” Suzara. Volleyball stars Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo of the Alas Pilipinas Men’s team, along with beach volleyball icon Sisi Rondina, were also present to show their support.
Suzara thanked LRTA for boosting awareness of the tournament through the transit campaign. He also revealed that fan excitement is building, with members of the BOYNEXTDOOR fan club joining the event in anticipation of the K-pop group’s special performance during the opening ceremony at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Gregorio emphasized the championship’s significance beyond sports, calling it a major push for sports tourism. “This is a global showcase, and the LRTA’s support demonstrates how public infrastructure can play a big role in promoting tourism through sports,” he said.
As part of the countdown to the big event, organizers will hold “Set Na Natin ‘To! An Electrifying Launch” on July 18 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall. The celebration will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the main program starting at 6 p.m. It promises an energetic lead-up to what is expected to be one of the Philippines’ biggest international sports events in recent years.
