Filipino volleyball star Bryan Bagunas is set to make a high-profile comeback on the international stage, rejoining Japan’s professional volleyball circuit as he signs with the powerhouse club Osaka Bluteon in the SV.League.

After a year-long recovery from a knee injury that kept him off international duty, the 6-foot-5 outside hitter is back in peak form and ready to compete at the highest level once again. His return marks a significant career milestone and a personal victory following his challenging 2024 season.

Bagunas last played overseas for Taiwan’s Win Streak Club from 2022 to 2023. However, fans will remember his early stint in Japan from 2019 to 2022 with Oita Miyoshi, where he established himself as a rising star in Asian volleyball. Now, he reenters the Japanese league with renewed energy and an even bigger stage — this time as part of a team packed with international talent.

Osaka Bluteon isn’t just any club — it’s one of Japan’s most ambitious teams this season. Bagunas will line up alongside Japanese volleyball icon Yuji Nishida and France’s Antoine Brizard, a two-time Olympic medalist and one of the world’s top setters. The squad is also under the guidance of new head coach Tuomas Sammelvuo, a former Russian national team coach known for his tactical expertise.

In a statement, Bagunas shared his excitement: “I am truly honored to join Osaka Bluteon. The club’s strong culture and drive to succeed are things I deeply respect. I’m committed to giving my all to help the team reach our goals this season.”

Beyond his club duties, Bagunas remains a cornerstone of Alas Pilipinas, the country’s national team that will compete in the FIVB Men’s World Championship this September — a historic event as the Philippines plays host.

With his return to top-tier international play and his role in the national squad’s World Championship campaign, Bryan Bagunas is poised to inspire a new wave of volleyball fans and reaffirm his place among the sport’s elite in Asia.
