LPA outside PAR develops into tropical depression

The low-pressure area (LPA) being monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) developed into a tropical depression on Monday morning, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa said the weather disturbance intensified into a tropical depression at around 8 a.m. It was last located 1,275 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, outside the PAR.

The cyclone had maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 70 kilometers per hour as it moved west-northwestward at 30 kilometers per hour.

The state weather bureau earlier said the system had a low chance of entering the PAR.

Pagasa continued to monitor the tropical depression and its possible effects on the country’s weather conditions.
