Flood response in Mindanao guided by PhilSA data

Even as the Bangsamoro government intensified its disaster response operations in the flooded areas triggered by super typhoon Inday and the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat), the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) has continued to conduct rescue and relief operations in the affected regions in Mindanao. 

The has tasked the regional Office of Civil Defense (OCD) to lead the operations as guided by data from the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA), which provided the agency with satellite data and maps pinpointing the specific areas impacted by the latest disaster. 

In the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), severe flooding affected the municipalities in Maguindanao del Norte, including Parang, and in Maguindanao del Sur, namely Guindulungan, Talayan, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Ampatuan, and Datu Hoffer Ampatuan and the municipality of Bongao in Tawi-Tawi. 

Approximately 930 families were affected by the intensified southwest monsoon and while displacement data from several provinces remain under validation, around 70 individuals were initially reported displaced in Maguindanao del Norte. 

In the meantime, the NDRRMC is encouraging the Bangsamoro people to remain supportive of the ongoing disaster response efforts. even as it urged the public to observe all recommended safety measures and stay updated through official weather advisories on social media. 

Further, it advised everyone to monitor the updated situation report from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
