A low-pressure area east of Northern Luzon entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday but remained unlikely to intensify into a tropical cyclone, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
Pagasa said the weather disturbance was located about 1,040 kilometers east of Northern Luzon based on its latest monitoring.
Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the LPA was moving westward and could pass near or over extreme Northern Luzon in the coming days.
He added that the system had no direct effect on the country as of Monday, although its development would continue to be monitored.
The southwest monsoon, or habagat, meanwhile, continued to bring rain over Luzon, including Metro Manila, and parts of the Visayas.
Pagasa said monsoon conditions were expected to persist over Luzon and the western section of the Visayas for several more days.
Palawan, the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao were expected to have generally fair weather, although localized thunderstorms could still bring brief heavy rains.
No gale warning was in effect over Philippine waters, but fishermen, particularly in Luzon, were advised to remain cautious because of possible rain showers and changing sea conditions.
