Lawmakers welcome livestreaming of ICI hearings as boost for transparency

Several members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday voiced support for the Independent Commission for Infrastructure’s (ICI) decision to livestream its proceedings starting next week.

Bicol Saro Rep. Terry Ridon said the move would strengthen accountability and promote open governance. “This is an important transparency measure to ensure that the public is fully informed of all disclosures, admissions, and evidence presented before the ICI—particularly those made by high-level officials, government employees, and private contractors,” said Ridon, who co-chairs the House Infrastructure Committee.

He added that Congress looks forward to working with the ICI on ongoing and future cases related to infrastructure issues.

Akbayan Party-list Rep. Chel Diokno welcomed the decision, saying it responds to the growing call for openness. “Karapatan ng publiko na malaman ang nangyayari sa mga pagdinig na ito dahil sila ang direktang mga biktima ng napakaraming katiwalian ukol sa flood control projects,” he said.

Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima also thanked the ICI for making its hearings public. “Sa pagsasapubliko ng ICI hearings, hindi na lang ICI ang nag-iimbestiga. Kasama na rin ang taumbayan sa susuri at titimbang,” she said.

Las Piñas Rep. Mark Anthony Santos described the move as a “positive step toward transparency.” He said livestreaming would help rebuild public trust and ensure fairness. “The people deserve to see the process unfold,” he added.

Santos also noted that livestreaming could discourage political interference and provide citizens with a clearer view of the investigation process. “The ICI’s decision to go live is a victory for truth and public accountability. Transparency must not be the exception—it should be the norm,” he said.
