The Capitol is abuzz again—Kieran Culkin has officially joined the Hunger Games universe as the flamboyant and unforgettable Caesar Flickerman, the ever-smiling host whose interviews with tributes are a chilling tradition before the bloodshed begins.
The announcement was made via the franchise’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, sending fans into a frenzy as they imagined the Succession star donning Caesar’s signature charm and theatrical flair.
“Sunrise on the Reaping,” the latest chapter in Suzanne Collins’ dystopian saga, is set decades before Katniss Everdeen ever stepped into the arena. The story dives into the 50th Hunger Games—also known as the Second Quarter Quell—and centers on a younger Haymitch Abernathy, the District 12 victor famously portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the original trilogy. In this installment, Haymitch will be played by Joseph Zada.
Set 24 years before the original Hunger Games and 40 years after the last prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, this new film explores how the rules of the Games were manipulated to double the terror: two tributes from each district were forced into the arena, doubling the odds and doubling the trauma.
