Once left in limbo, Kevin Ferrer now has a fresh chance to revive his PBA career after landing a spot with TNT Tropang Giga just in time for the league’s milestone 50th season.
At 32, the former University of Santo Tomas standout knows he’s walking into a team with championship pedigree. TNT came within striking distance of a grand slam last year, and Ferrer hopes his arrival can help push them back to the mountaintop.
The two-time PBA champion with Barangay Ginebra has seen his career drift since leaving the Kings, spending the last six years with NorthPort and Terrafirma. Injuries marred much of his stint with the Dyip, and by the end of Season 49, he was released—jobless and uncertain of what was next.
For two months, Ferrer admitted he had no source of income. Then came an unexpected call from TNT deputy coach Josh Reyes, a familiar face from his Gilas cadet days. Meralco also showed interest, but Ferrer felt TNT was the right fit.
“One thing I considered was having played under coach Josh before. I also know many of the guys here, so it’s easier for me to adjust,” Ferrer said. “Of course, my focus is how I can help the team win. I’ll give my 100 percent commitment.”
Reunited with fellow Gilas cadet Roger Pogoy, Ferrer aims to bring what has always defined his game: hard-nosed defense and reliable outside shooting.
“My defense and hustle are my strengths,” he explained. “And of course my shooting, to help spread the floor. TNT has always leaned on outside shooting, and I’m ready to contribute.”
Now signed to a one-year deal, Ferrer sees this opportunity not just as a comeback, but as a rebirth. His first test in Tropang Giga colors comes on October 10 against the Phoenix Fuel Masters at the Ynares Center in Montalban.
For Ferrer, it’s more than just another season—it’s a chance to prove he still belongs on the biggest stage.
