Carla Guevara Laforteza described the Grammy nominations of KATSEYE, the global group led by her daughter Sophia, as “literally a dream.” The group received nods for Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their song Gabriela.
“She called us. I had work that night from an early call time so I slept early. My phone kept ringing at around midnight. I did not notice. 1 a.m., it still kept ringing. So I finally answered and she went: ‘Mommy, we got nominated sa Grammys.’ I said, ‘What? Wow, okay babe, that’s good, bye,” Laforteza recalled.
“Then I dreamt about it. I thought it was all a dream. So pag gising ko, akala ko panaginip,” she added, saying the news only sank in after reading a message from Lea Salonga the next morning.
The KATSEYE mothers’ group chat also erupted with excitement. “We have a KATSEYE mom’s group chat. We were screaming. Our girls, can you believe it?” she shared.
Laforteza expressed pride in the global girl group, noting their hard work and merit. “They were not handpicked. They fought for it. Nakita mo they worked hard for it. They deserve every recognition, the nominations, the love,” she said.
The 2026 Grammy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on February 1, with Kendrick Lamar leading with nine nominations and Lady Gaga following with seven for her Mayhem album. Laforteza also stars in Bagets the Musical, set for January 2026 at Newport Performing Arts Theater.
