JT International Asia Manufacturing Corp. (JTI-AMC) has invested more than Php 2 billion to modernize its facility at LIMA Estate in Batangas, including the establishment of Southeast Asia’s first Dry Ice Expanded Tobacco (DIET) plant.
JTI said Php 1.9 billion was allocated for the new tobacco-processing technology, while more than Php 177 million was spent to expand its Controlled Atmosphere treatment facility.
The expanded CA facility became operational in July 2026 and doubled the plant’s treatment capacity.
JTI-AMC Factory Lead for the Philippines Amir Vajdi said the investments reflect the company’s confidence in the country’s long-term economic potential and its role in JTI’s regional operations.
The Batangas plant is the first JTI manufacturing facility in Southeast Asia equipped with DIET technology. The company also operates similar facilities in Bangladesh and Japan.
DIET technology is used to expand tobacco during processing, allowing for greater consistency and efficiency in the preparation of raw materials for manufacturing.
Vajdi said the Batangas facility’s technical capabilities and workforce made it a suitable location for the company’s first DIET plant in Southeast Asia.
He added that the Philippines remains attractive for long-term investment because of its skilled workforce, strategic location and manufacturing environment.
