The Japanese government on Tuesday reiterated its strong opposition to Russia’s military action in Ukraine as the conflict marked its fourth year.

Officials said the invasion continued to violate fundamental principles that underpin the international system.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said Tokyo viewed the use of force to alter existing conditions as unacceptable.

He stressed that Japan maintained its position against unilateral actions that destabilize peace and security.

Kihara said achieving a fair and enduring resolution to the conflict remained a priority for Japan.

He noted that any path toward peace should take into account the position and interests of Ukraine.

Japan, he said, would continue aligning its response with partners and allies.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to work with the international community in addressing the ongoing war.
