Israeli forces conducted an overnight airstrike on Sunday in the southern suburbs of Beirut, targeting the Harat Hreik district, an Anadolu correspondent reported.

The strike sparked a fire at a building in the area, though there was no immediate information on casualties, the reporter said.

Lieut. Col. Ella Waweya, the Israeli army’s Arabic-language spokesperson, posted on X that the military operation focused on Hezbollah infrastructure in Beirut.

Earlier, Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee also used X to issue a warning for residents to evacuate the southern suburb ahead of the operation, saying the targets were Hezbollah personnel and facilities.

Tensions in the region escalated after joint attacks by Israel and the United States on Iran on February 28, which reportedly killed around 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran responded with drone and missile strikes hitting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries where it said U.S. military assets were located.

The conflict has extended into Lebanon, with cross-border clashes between Israel and Hezbollah since March 2, resulting in more than 800 deaths and over 2,000 injuries, according to preliminary reports.
