Iran warned that any US attack on its infrastructure would trigger broader retaliatory strikes against facilities across the region, state media reported Thursday.

Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said Tehran would respond by targeting remaining regional infrastructure if Iranian facilities were destroyed.

He said Iran would not accept any attempt by the United States to intervene in the Strait of Hormuz, describing the strategic waterway as a firm red line for Tehran.

Zolfaghari added that Iran’s response would not simply match the scale of an attack but would be designed to inflict greater damage.

He warned that any retaliation could be more extensive and destructive than previous Iranian military actions.

The statement came as tensions between Washington and Tehran continued to rise over control and security in the Strait of Hormuz.

The two sides had exchanged attacks despite a memorandum of understanding brokered by Pakistan that was intended to halt the hostilities.

The agreement had also sought to open the way for a lasting settlement, but renewed threats showed that the conflict remained far from resolved.
