Senator Imee Marcos has denied involvement in efforts to remove Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.
In a statement over the weekend, Marcos said she only learned of the attempted leadership change late and joined discussions after the plan was already circulating.
She clarified that her committee roles, including as chair of the Foreign Relations panel, were unrelated to any leadership moves and that her stance as a critic of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration left her with no expectations in internal Senate politics.
The situation emerged amid rumors of dissatisfaction among senators with Sotto’s leadership, particularly following debates over accountability and ongoing investigations into public projects.
Senators had reportedly considered replacing Sotto with Senator Loren Legarda, though the Senate ultimately suspended sessions without any leadership change. Marcos noted she did not sign certain foreign affairs resolutions, instead filing separate measures urging professionalism and restraint in government communications.
The senator emphasized that her focus remains on legislative work, saying that disagreements within the chamber are part of routine deliberations and not linked to attempts to sway the Senate majority.
