ILOILO CITY – Iloilo province has been selected as one of the priority areas for the Presidential Scholars Network (PSN), an initiative of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. aimed at strengthening support for scholars under the Bawat Barangay Makikinabang Program.
The provincial government said Thursday that the network, spearheaded by the Office of the President through the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES), seeks to connect scholars through peer mentoring, leadership development, civic participation, and community-based activities.
The program has two main objectives: helping scholars complete their education through a peer support system and encouraging their participation in nation-building efforts.
It will also provide access to government services and employment opportunities after graduation.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. met with OES Assistant Secretary Rea Uy-Epistola on Thursday to discuss preparations for the program’s implementation in the province.
Also present were Provincial Population Officer Ruel Von Superio and OES Technical Assistant Nadine Bernardino.
The Provincial Population Office will lead the rollout in coordination with the Provincial Health Office, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Local Youth Development Office, and Provincial Education Management Office.
According to the provincial government, Iloilo has approximately 8,605 presidential scholars who could benefit from the initiative.
The network is expected to strengthen educational support and encourage scholars to contribute to community development.
