Ilocos Norte sends relief, launches cash drive for Cebu Quake Victims

The provincial government of Ilocos Norte has donated relief goods and launched a cash donation drive for families affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu and nearby provinces late Tuesday night.

As early as 3 a.m. Thursday, provincial staff and uniformed personnel loaded 400 family food packs onto a Manila-bound Cebu Pacific aircraft at Laoag International Airport. From Manila, the goods were transported to Cebu.

“We prepared 400 family food packs from the provincial government. This consists of five-kilogram rice, canned goods, milo and instant miki (noodles), among others,” said Rochelle Gajes, acting provincial social welfare and development officer.

The initiative, led by Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos and Vice Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc, also includes a cash donation drive to provide further aid.

Araneta-Marcos thanked Cebu Pacific and volunteers for ensuring the relief reached Cebu on time.

“This is teamwork at its best. Thank you Vice Gov. Matt for initiating this, especially since part of his heart is Cebuano,” she said.

Manotoc extended sympathy and encouragement to the victims.

“To all of our Cebuano and Visayan brothers and sisters, please know that Ilocos Norte is thinking about you. We will do our part in ensuring that you will get back on your feet. Babangon po kayo. Please keep your spirits up and help is underway,” he said.
