A small macaque named Punch—also known as Baby Panchi—has quietly become a global symbol of comfort and compassion. Living at Japan’s Ichikawa Zoo, the adorable primate captured hearts worldwide after being rejected by his mother at birth and forming a touching bond with an IKEA DJUNGELSKOG orangutan soft toy.
The story of the tiny macaque hugging his plush companion resonated across the internet, reminding people how even the simplest gestures can bring warmth and reassurance.
Inspired by this heartfelt moment, IKEA Philippines is turning that same spirit of comfort into a meaningful initiative. The brand has launched Project Panchi Akap Pabalik, a campaign designed to transform every hug into real-world support for communities and the environment.
Running throughout March and April 2026, the initiative aims to donate up to ₱1 million from soft toy sales. For every soft toy purchased during the campaign period, ₱50 will be allocated to social and environmental programs through IKEA’s partnership with Better World organization.
Through Project Panchi Akap Pabalik, IKEA Philippines hopes to extend the comfort symbolized by Punch’s beloved plush toy beyond homes and into communities that need it most.
The funds raised will support programs focused on the welfare of vulnerable children, mental health and well-being initiatives, as well as wildlife conservation efforts including tarsier preservation and broader animal welfare projects.
By turning a simple purchase into a gesture of kindness, the campaign invites customers to take part in a movement where a small act—like hugging a soft toy—can create meaningful change for people and animals alike.
