PHILIPPINES – 10 September 2026 – What would it really take to survive on Arrakis?
In a new featurette, the UK Military’s Chief Survival Instructor & Consultant John Hudson examines the deadly realities behind Dune: Awakening’s desert world, from hydration, shelter, and exposure to sandstorms to resource management and surviving as a group. The full featurette is available to watch here.
Drawing on his experience designing and running survival training in extreme environments, including deserts, Hudson highlights the realism of Dune: Awakening’s weather-sculpted rock formations and unforgiving landscapes.
“The rocky outcrops that the team of Dune: Awakening have built are incredibly realistic,” says Hudson. “They look like they have been sandblasted by desert storms. They look sculpted by the wind. Yet within them you can see some hope of refuge.”
Hudson explores how the game’s hostile environment mirrors real-world desert survival principles: protecting against extreme heat and sun exposure, conserving water, seeking shelter during sandstorms, and relying on group coordination to carry the resources needed to endure.
The featurette also examines why Arrakis is more than a setting. It is an active survival challenge, where players must prepare for every journey, establish shelter, manage scarce resources, form alliances, and contend with the planet’s immense sandworms.
Dune: Awakening, Funcom’s open-world survival game inspired by Frank Herbert’s seminal sci-fi novel and Legendary Entertainment’s award-winning films, launches on consoles on September 22, 2026.
Deluxe and Ultimate owners will be able to get a head start from September 17. Console players, alongside new and returning PC players, will have access to all additions and improvements introduced since the PC launch, as well as new content and updates arriving in September.
