Senator Risa Hontiveros has filed a resolution calling for an investigation into online gaming platforms, including Roblox, to assess risks faced by children in digital spaces.

The proposed Senate Resolution No. 357 directed the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality to conduct the inquiry and recommend safeguards.

Hontiveros said the measure aims to establish stricter safety standards, including age verification mechanisms, for platforms operating in the country.

She raised concerns over the continued use of digital platforms in cases of online sexual abuse and exploitation involving minors, noting that such threats are evolving.

The senator cited reports from law enforcement indicating that offenders often reach children through online games that lack reliable identity and age checks.

She also pointed to a recent case involving teenagers in Calabarzon who were allegedly inspired by violent content abroad, highlighting broader concerns about harmful online influences.

Hontiveros said there is a need to strengthen policies on digital literacy, responsible gaming, and mental health awareness among young users while ensuring regulations remain balanced and risk-based.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) earlier flagged Roblox over alleged child safety violations and warned that restrictions could be imposed if safeguards are not improved.
