A cultural juggernaut that reshaped Broadway, Hamilton is once again ready to make history—this time, in cinemas around the world. Disney has announced that a special theatrical release of the acclaimed musical will hit movie screens this September, celebrating the production’s 10th anniversary with a rare cast reunion that promises to stir both nostalgia and excitement among fans.
Originally debuting on stage in 2015, Hamilton broke barriers with its fusion of hip-hop, R&B, and traditional show tunes, retelling the life of American founding father Alexander Hamilton through a modern lens. The musical, created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, sparked a global phenomenon, earning dozens of awards, including 11 Tony Awards, a Grammy, and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The upcoming cinematic release will feature never-before-seen moments and exclusive footage from the original Broadway cast, including Miranda himself. While a previously recorded version of the stage performance was released on Disney+ in 2020 amid the pandemic, this theatrical presentation is positioned as a unique event—designed for the big screen experience and anchored by the show’s enduring legacy.
Miranda, who has since become a household name, shared that this version aims to celebrate the journey of the musical and the people who brought it to life. “Ten years ago, we had no idea how far this story would go. Bringing the cast back together is our way of saying thank you to the fans and the theater community that embraced us,” he said.
The musical’s global reach was evident when Hamilton was brought to Manila in 2023, staging a sold-out run at The Theatre at Solaire. Among its cast was acclaimed Filipina performer Rachelle Ann Go, reprising her role as Eliza Schuyler, a character she had previously played in London’s West End. Her emotional return was a highlight for Filipino fans and helped underscore the musical’s worldwide appeal.
With its blend of history, innovation, and social commentary, Hamilton remains as relevant today as it was a decade ago. The anniversary release offers longtime supporters and new audiences alike a chance to relive—or experience for the first time—the revolution that changed the stage forever.
Tickets for the September premiere will go on sale soon. Theater lovers and filmgoers alike are encouraged to brace for a powerful return of the show that made history sing.
