The southwest monsoon, or habagat, was expected to continue bringing unsettled weather to Luzon and parts of the Visayas over the next five days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Sunday.
Pagasa weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the agency’s latest analysis showed that monsoon winds would remain influential over much of Luzon and the western section of the Visayas during the period.
Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms were forecast over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Cagayan, Zambales, Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac and Occidental Mindoro.
Pagasa also projected 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall within 24 hours over La Union, Pangasinan and Zambales, where residents in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas were advised to remain alert.
Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and other areas in the Visayas were expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also linked to the habagat.
In Mindanao, isolated rain showers and thunderstorms were expected to develop due to localized thunderstorms rather than the southwest monsoon.
Pagasa was also tracking a low-pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, about 2,335 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.
The weather disturbance was considered unlikely to intensify into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, according to the state weather bureau.
