The southwest monsoon continued to drench parts of Luzon on Sunday, bringing rain over key areas in the north and central regions.

State weather bureau Pagasa said the habagat remained the dominant weather system, affecting provinces including Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur where steady rains were expected.

Rainfall in these areas could reach 50 to 100 millimeters, raising the risk of localized flooding, especially in low-lying communities.

Metro Manila and nearby provinces were also placed under cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.

Among those likely to be affected were areas in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of the Ilocos Region.

Despite the ongoing rains, weather specialists said the monsoon had begun to lose strength after persisting for several weeks.

This easing trend could lead to fewer rain events in the coming days, although occasional showers remain possible.

Pagasa said it was not tracking any low pressure area or tropical cyclone, leaving the southwest monsoon as the main driver of current weather conditions.
