A member of a communist armed group listed in the government’s Periodic Status Report (PSR) surrendered to authorities in Misamis Oriental and turned over a firearm and ammunition, the Philippine National Police said.

The PNP said the individual, identified only by the aliases “Jefox” and “Kills,” voluntarily surrendered in Barangay Dampil, Lagonglong, on Aug. 21.

According to police, the surrenderer was listed as a member of the Sub-Regional Sentro De Grabidad Eagles under Sub-Regional Committee 1 of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee.

The individual turned over an improvised caliber .30 rifle and 23 rounds of ammunition during the surrender.

Personnel from the 1st Special Action Battalion of the Special Action Force provided tactical support to the 1001st Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10 and other police units and government agencies during the activity.

The surrenderer and the recovered firearm and ammunition were placed under the custody of the 1001st Maneuver Company for documentation and proper disposition.

Police said authorities would also assess the surrenderer for possible enrollment in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program, or E-CLIP, which provides assistance to qualified former rebels seeking to return to civilian life.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the surrender reduced the number of firearms that could pose risks to communities while providing the individual an opportunity for peaceful reintegration. He said the PNP would continue security operations alongside government efforts to help former rebels return to their communities.
