A nationwide suspension of permits to carry firearms outside residences will be enforced on July 27 as part of security preparations for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address.
The National Capital Region Police Office said the gun ban would complement tightened security around the Batasang Pambansa complex and other designated areas.
Authorities also prepared intensified intelligence monitoring, route and perimeter security, contingency plans and quick-response units.
Explosive ordnance disposal teams, special weapons and tactics personnel and medical responders will also be deployed during the event.
A no-fly and no-drone zone will be imposed over selected areas as police move to prevent aerial security threats.
The NCRPO earlier announced that 21,261 personnel would be assigned to Sona-related operations and that full alert status would begin at 5 p.m. on July 24.
Roads near the Batasang Pambansa complex will be temporarily closed, prompting authorities to advise motorists to use alternate routes.
Northbound drivers may take North Avenue, Mindanao Avenue, Sauyo Road or Quirino Highway, while southbound motorists may use Commonwealth Avenue, Sauyo Road, Quirino Highway, Mindanao Avenue and North Avenue.
