Former Bureau of Customs (BOC) intelligence officer Jimmy Guban broke into tears at the House Quad Committee hearing on Thursday upon seeing long time colleague former police colonel Eduardo Acierto, albeit not in the flesh, but in an online hearing conducted via Zoom.

Acierto was questioned by the Quad Committee about personalities closely associated former President Rodrigo Roa  Duterte and their alleged involvement in illegal drug activities.

In hiding for fear of his life, Acierto has accused the former President and Senator Bong Go of putting a P50-million bounty on his head.

Guban, unable to speak for a few moments, said: “Pasalamat po kami sa Diyos dahil pareho pa kaming buhay.” (Thank God that we are both alive.)

Guban and Acierto have not been in contact for the past six years.

“Siya may patong sa ulo, ako buti na lang may Diyos. Hanggang ngayon, nasa Bilibid Prison,” Guban said. (He has a bounty on his head.  As for me, it is good there is a God.  Up to this time, I am in Bilibid prison.)

Guban was a key witness in the 2018 shabu smuggling controversy involving Davao officials and personalities. (With Paula Valero)
