Greenland said it did not need medical assistance from other countries, rejecting a US offer to send a hospital ship to the island.

US President Donald Trump had announced on his platform Truth Social that, together with Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, he planned to dispatch a hospital ship to Greenland.

Trump said the vessel would provide care for people who were sick and not being treated, and he described the ship as “on the way.”

The Greenlandic prime minister responded on Facebook that the offer was unnecessary and politely declined.

Jens-Frederik Nielsen explained that Greenland has a public health system that provides free care for all citizens, making outside medical help unnecessary.

Trump has recently renewed interest in acquiring US control over Greenland, citing concerns about Russia and China, and previously threatened sanctions against European countries that opposed the idea.

He later withdrew the threats following a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where officials established a framework for potential agreements involving Greenland and the Arctic region.

Further discussions were planned regarding the US Golden Dome missile defense system and its connection to Greenland.
