The Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front have activated joint peace mechanisms to de-escalate tensions resulting from a localized conflict (rido) in the Special Geographic Area.
Government Peace Implementing Panel Chair and Presidential Peace Adviser Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento confirmed that the Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities, Ad Hoc Joint Action Group, and Joint Peace and Security Teams have been actively collaborating with local government units and MILF commanders. Through strict adherence to coordination protocols during security and law enforcement operations in Nabalawag and Tugunan, the joint mechanisms successfully prevented accidental clashes, safely managed internally displaced persons, and stabilized the overall security situation across affected communities.
