Globe is accelerating its network innovation by scaling up the use of Free Space Optics (FSO), an advanced laser-based technology that delivers fiber-grade internet speeds—minus the cables and the complicated construction work that usually comes with them.
Through its shared services arm, Fiber Infrastructure and Network Services Inc. (FINSI), Globe has partnered with Singapore-based Transcelestial Technologies to bring this solution nationwide, expanding the company’s transport network capacity and boosting both broadband and 5G services.
FSO works by transmitting data through tightly focused laser beams that travel across the air, creating fast, stable connections without the need to dig up roads or lay physical fiber. This enables Globe to deploy high-speed connectivity in days instead of months, especially in communities where traditional fiber rollout is difficult, delayed, or too costly.
The move follows Globe and Transcelestial’s agreement signed in August 2025 to accelerate the adoption of wireless laser communication across the Philippines. The collaboration includes the use of Transcelestial’s Centauri laser devices for last-mile connectivity, mobile backhaul, and pop-up network deployments for large-scale events.
Globe is also testing Transcelestial’s long-distance Legolas laser links—capable of transmitting data over distances of up to 15 kilometers—with full rollout targeted for 2026 pending successful trials.
The technology has already proven its strength and reliability in earlier pilots across Visayas and Mindanao, and during major gatherings such as the Philippine Arena in 2024, where Transcelestial’s system powered Globe’s Cell Site on Wheels with seamless and ultra-fast connectivity.
FSO graduates from pilot to standard Globe technology
For Globe, FSO has officially moved beyond experimentation. It is now part of the company’s standard network playbook, working alongside fiber to expand coverage more efficiently.
“Free Space Optics is no longer a pilot for Globe. It is now one of our standard transport solutions,” said Gerhard P.
