Globe and DICT bring the internet to 180 of the Philippines’ most isolated communities

For millions of Filipinos, sending a text message, joining an online class, or accessing government services is as simple as tapping a screen. But for many remote communities across the country, connectivity remains a luxury—until now.

Globe and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) have reached a major milestone in their mission to close the Philippines’ digital divide, bringing mobile connectivity to some of the country’s most isolated and previously unreachable communities.

In Barangay Macaleeng in Anda, Pangasinan—a community that once lived with zero mobile signal—Globe, DICT, and local government officials ceremonially activated a new connectivity site that symbolizes more than just another cell tower. It marks the arrival of opportunities that many residents are experiencing for the first time.

The milestone is part of Globe’s nationwide network expansion that has successfully connected 52 previously unserved areas under the government’s digital inclusion program. Beyond these zero-signal zones, Globe has also enhanced network services across 128 underserved communities, completing connectivity support for all 180 project locations identified under the initiative.

For the first time, thousands of Filipinos in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) now have access to reliable mobile data services—opening doors to education, healthcare, financial inclusion, livelihood opportunities, and government services.

“The hardest places to connect are often the communities that stand to benefit the most from connectivity,” said Globe President and CEO Carl Cruz. “Whether through new technologies, stronger partnerships, or innovative network solutions, our goal is simple: to make sure geography is never a barrier to opportunity.”

The ceremonial activation in Pangasinan gathered officials from Globe, DICT, the Department of Education, local government units, and community leaders, underscoring how public-private partnerships are helping accelerate the country’s digital transformation agenda.

DICT Undersecretary for Support Services Heherson Asiddao described the initiative as a people-first milestone.

“This is an important milestone. Every new tower means more communities connected, more families reached, and more opportunities opened,” Asiddao said. “Connectivity is not just about technology. It is about the people and making sure that where they live does not limit what they can achieve.”

For local residents, the impact is immediate and tangible. Beneficiaries received and activated their Bayanihan SIM cards during the event, allowing them to access mobile services and digital platforms right away.

Mayor Joganie Rarang of Anda, Pangasinan emphasized how connectivity is becoming an essential infrastructure that can transform rural communities.

“For our students, farmers, entrepreneurs, and families, better connectivity opens doors to opportunities that were once beyond reach,” Rarang said. “This milestone is an investment in the future of Pangasinan.”

The benefits of connectivity extend far beyond communication. Students can now attend online classes and access educational resources. Farmers can check market prices and weather updates in real time. Entrepreneurs can grow their businesses online, while families gain easier access to digital banking, telemedicine, and government services.

What was once considered impossible in some of the country’s most remote areas is quickly becoming reality.

As Globe and DICT continue expanding digital infrastructure nationwide, the initiative serves as a reminder that building a digitally inclusive Philippines is not merely about installing towers—it is about ensuring that no Filipino is left offline simply because of where they live.

One community at a time, the country’s digital future is finally reaching those who have waited the longest to be connected.
