Senate President Pro Tempore Sherwin Gatchalian said Tuesday he was considering legal action against former congressman Mike Defensor over a supposed Senate hearing announcement.

Defensor earlier claimed that the bloc of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano would hold a flood control probe outside the Senate.

No senator from the Cayetano camp publicly confirmed the event.

Gatchalian questioned why Defensor made the announcement despite having no Senate post or committee authority.

He said he was consulting Sen. Erwin Tulfo, who now chairs the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, on possible legal action.

Gatchalian said the announcement could confuse the public into thinking the gathering was an official Senate proceeding.

The supposed hearing was set Tuesday morning at Doublegem EDSA Events Place but did not push through.

The venue management earlier announced that the event would no longer proceed and denied any link to its organizers or subject matter.
