From spare change to millions: Carmona mother wins ₱32.8M lotto jackpot

For nearly ten years, hope arrived quietly for a 40-year-old mother from Carmona, Laguna — in the form of an occasional lotto ticket bought only when spare coins allowed.

With no permanent job and no steady source of income, her days were devoted to caring for her aging parents and raising her child. Life was built around responsibility, not risk. But on January 29, 2026, that quiet routine was shaken in the most unexpected way.

Her ticket bearing the combination 16–28–08–23–42–20 hit the jackpot in the Lotto 6/42 draw, earning her a life-changing ₱32,894,927.40.

She had been placing bets for almost a decade — though never regularly.

“Minsan lang po, pag may extra lang,” she said, explaining that she only played when there was loose change to spare.

There was no grand strategy, no weekly ritual. Just a small, steady belief.

With no employment and relying at times on assistance from relatives, her dreams were simple: to start a modest business and secure her child’s education. Luxury was never the goal. Stability was.

“Naniniwala po talaga ako sa lotto dahil sa mga nababalitaan kong nananalo, kaya tuloy-tuloy lang po ako sa pagtaya. Pero nang mapagtanto ko na ako ang nanalo, talagang nabigla po ako — parang nabulabog ang tahimik kong buhay,” she shared.

She said the moment she confirmed the winning numbers, disbelief washed over her. The quiet life she had known for years suddenly shifted.

For her, the lotto ticket was never an escape from hardship. It was a gentle allowance to dream — a whisper of possibility tucked inside daily struggles.

Now a newly minted millionaire, she says the jackpot represents security above all else — funds to build a small business, provide for her parents, and ensure her child’s future.

Sometimes, the loudest victories begin with the quietest hopes.

The Lotto 6/42 is drawn every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 9:00 p.m., with live broadcasts on IBC 13 and D8TV, and livestreams available through the official channels of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
