Filipinos will get easier access to primary health care on September 14 as government health services move directly into schools and workplaces nationwide under the Handog ng Pangulo program.
The Department of Health and PhilHealth will roll out YAKAP services across participating sites as part of the Marcos administration’s push to make basic health care more accessible and convenient for communities.
A total of 257 YAKAP Clinics, together with partner GAMOT Providers, will take part in the nationwide activity.
At Handog ng Pangulo sites, PhilHealth members may access member assistance, YAKAP clinic selection and empanelment, medical consultations, free medicines through the GAMOT program, and support for Philippine Statistics Authority registration.
PhilHealth Acting President and CEO Dr. Beverly Ho said the initiative is designed to bring primary care closer to people instead of requiring them to seek services farther from their schools, workplaces or communities.
“We want to bring YAKAP to where Filipinos already are. Pinagtutulungan namin ng DOH, under UNA, yung holistic approach to health in schools, workplaces, and communities na meron kang health promotion interventions at may primary care services na available,” Ho said.
She added that the nationwide activity offers a glimpse of how PhilHealth wants members to experience primary health care in the future.
“On this day, we want to show the member experience that we are working toward. Dapat ganito kadali mag-access ng primary care services para sa lahat ng Pilipino,” Ho said.
The September 14 rollout forms part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Handog ng Pangulo initiative, which brings government programs and services closer to Filipinos across the country.
