While others wander through life looking for their “true north,” Francis Gotianun knew exactly where to anchor his soul: in building spaces where people can feel joy, comfort, and a genuine Filipino welcome.
As a third-generation business scion of the Filinvest Group, Francis could have followed any path. But his heart was set on hospitality—a passion he pursued not just as a job, but as a lifelong mission. “There’s nothing like getting people into a space that you’ve built and seeing the joy that they have as they experience it,” the 41-year-old executive shares.
He didn’t dive into the family business right away. After earning his commerce degree from the University of Virginia, he explored careers in satellite TV and BPO. Then came business school in Barcelona, where he refined his vision and returned in 2010 to join Filinvest, just as the group was testing the hospitality waters in Cebu.
Today, Francis Gotianun serves as first senior vice president of the Filinvest Hospitality Group, overseeing a proudly homegrown portfolio of eight hotels and resorts with more than 1,700 rooms—from the luxe Crimson Resorts to the “premium budget” Quest Hotels, and the nature-immersive Timberland Highlands Resort in Rizal. Up next: the opening of Grafik Pine House Baguio, a stylish “lifestyle experiential” hotel designed for young, curious travelers.
His vision is rooted in authenticity. Unlike competitors bringing in global franchises, Gotianun believes in building brands that truly reflect Filipino values, service, and identity. “If you want a true Filipino experience, you come to a Filipino brand,” he says.
Over the next five years, he aims to add 2,000 more rooms to their portfolio—but with one condition: growth must come with purpose. “We’re not just expanding for the sake of it,” he explains. “We want to offer something meaningful and unique every time.”
In a world where travelers seek connection, culture, and comfort, Francis Gotianun is building more than hotels. He’s building moments, memories, and modern Filipino hospitality—one meaningful stay at a time.
