Fortinet has published its 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting the company’s strategies, commitments, and achievements across the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) areas most important to its business and stakeholders.

“As digital transformation accelerates, cybersecurity becomes increasingly vital to protecting organizations, the economy, and society,” said Michael Xie, Fortinet’s founder, president, and CTO.

“We are dedicated to ensuring our technologies, people, and operations contribute to a more secure and sustainable world—whether that’s through energy-efficient products, eco-friendly packaging, or bridging the global cybersecurity skills gap. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made and remain focused on embedding sustainability across every aspect of our business,” he added.

Fortinet Philippines Country Manager Bambi Escalante echoed this commitment, noting the alignment between local and global sustainability goals. “In the Philippines, our initiatives reflect Fortinet’s broader strategy. We’re promoting responsible innovation, reducing environmental impact, and advancing cybersecurity education,” she said. “By driving energy efficiency, building skills, and fostering collaboration, we’re helping shape a safer, more sustainable digital future—both at home and around the world.”

The 2024 report outlines Fortinet’s continued leadership in cybersecurity innovation, environmental responsibility, and social impact. Key highlights include:

Securing the digital world through innovation
Fortinet continues to lead in cybersecurity innovation, with nearly 1,400 issued patents and over 450 pending. The company is pioneering AI-driven security solutions in partnership with leading institutions like UC Berkeley, the World Economic Forum, and the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).

In 2024, Fortinet became one of the first companies to sign CISA’s Secure by Design pledge, committing to embed security throughout the product lifecycle.

Fortinet strengthened its partnerships with global organizations to combat cybercrime, supporting major initiatives such as INTERPOL’s Operation Serengeti and the World Economic Forum’s Cybercrime Atlas Project. These collaborations in 2024 contributed to over 1,000 arrests, the dismantling of more than 134,000 malicious networks, and the recovery of $44 million in stolen assets.

Advancing climate action
Fortinet’s climate goals received third-party validation in 2024 through the Science Based Targets initiative. The company’s emissions reduction plan—aligned with the 1.5°C pathway—covers scope 1 and 2 emissions, with additional efforts targeting scope 3 emissions across its supply chain and customer base.

In 2024, Fortinet launched new FortiGate models that are, on average, 61% more energy efficient than their predecessors. The company also introduced 22 FSC-certified, plastic-free packaging designs for its top-selling products, preventing 387 metric tons of CO2e emissions and eliminating 77 metric tons of plastic.

Closing the cybersecurity skills gap
Since 2022, Fortinet’s Training Institute has equipped over 630,000 individuals with cybersecurity skills. In 2024, the company joined the European Commission’s Cybersecurity Skills Academy, committing to train 75,000 people in the EU by 2027.

Fortinet also helped shape the World Economic Forum’s 2024 Strategic Cybersecurity Talent Framework to promote global best practices in workforce development.

All of Fortinet’s top contract manufacturers and distributors—accounting for 90% of spend—completed ethics and compliance training in 2024. The company also expanded its ISO 27001/17/18 certifications and SOC2 Type II audits, achieving 81 certifications and assessments to enhance data protection and privacy.

Recognition for corporate responsibility
Fortinet’s leadership in sustainability and ethical business practices has earned it several industry honors:

  • Listed for the third consecutive year in the 2024 Dow Jones Sustainability World and North America Indices
  • Improved CDP Climate Change rating from B- to B
  • Named a 2024 Best Company to Work For by Glassdoor and certified as a Great Place to Work
  • Ranked No. 7 on Forbes’ 2025 Most Trusted Companies in America—the highest-ranking cybersecurity firm on the list

Reporting standards and focus areas
Fortinet’s report aligns with global sustainability frameworks, including the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

The report outlines progress in eight key areas: innovation and responsible tech, cybercrime disruption, climate change, product impact, inclusion, skills development, business ethics, and data security.

With cybersecurity at the heart of digital transformation, Fortinet reaffirms its commitment to protecting businesses and communities while promoting sustainability and ethical responsibility across its global operations.
