Filipinos reign supreme in watching vlogs and influencer videos

The Philippines has once again claimed a global title — this time, as the world’s top consumer of vlogs and influencer content.

According to the Digital 2025 Global Overview Report by Meltwater and We Are Social, 48.7% of Filipino internet users aged 16 and above watch vlogs and influencer videos weekly. That’s more than anywhere else on Earth — outpacing Morocco (43.3%) and Ghana (41.1%).

Filipinos also spend an average of 10 hours a week glued to their mobile screens watching short-form videos, with music, comedy, and viral clips dominating the digital landscape. The nation’s love for online entertainment has become a defining feature of its digital culture.

But beyond the scroll lies a deeper story about opportunity and urgency.

A booming digital economy, ripe with potential
With over 85 million internet users, a young, tech-savvy population, and one of the highest social media engagement rates globally, the Philippines is perfectly positioned to harness the power of the digital economy.

The influencer and content creator ecosystem is already a thriving industry — offering new income streams, entrepreneurial opportunities, and a platform for cultural exports.

Digital content creation, e-commerce, virtual services, and online freelancing are all experiencing exponential growth, contributing to what could be a multi-billion-dollar digital economy in the near future. With proper investment and infrastructure, the Philippines could become a major Southeast Asian hub for creative tech, fintech, and digital services.

The other side: A call for digital literacy
Yet, with opportunity comes responsibility. The platforms that empower creators and businesses are fertile ground for misinformation, disinformation, and opinion masquerading as fact.

In a country where reading comprehension is on the decline and functional illiteracy remains a concern, the dominance of video content raises critical questions:

Who shapes public opinion in a creator-driven media landscape?

How do we ensure truth and integrity in algorithms and viral trends?

The road ahead
As the Philippines continues to lead in digital consumption, the challenge is transforming screen time into economic value, and entertainment into empowerment. Strengthening digital literacy, supporting ethical content creation, and investing in digital infrastructure will be key.

The eyes of the world may be watching influencers — but the world should also be watching the Philippines. Because its digital future is not just entertaining — it’s powerful.
