Filipinos are packing their bags — and Cebuana Lhuillier wants a cut of the travel money boom

Filipinos are spending more money to go abroad — and Cebuana Lhuillier is moving aggressively to make sure travelers know where to get their foreign cash before boarding the plane.

With overseas travel emerging as one of the country’s biggest discretionary spending priorities, Cebuana Lhuillier MoneyXchange is doubling down on its role as the Filipinos’ “Xchange Xpert,” offering competitive foreign exchange rates, secure transactions, and access through its massive nationwide branch network.

A recent Cebuana Lhuillier customer study revealed that 22% of respondents now allocate part of their budget to overseas travel, placing international trips alongside shopping and retail among the top non-essential expenses Filipino consumers are willing to spend on.

And the travel itch appears to be getting stronger.

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed that outbound tourism expenditure jumped 3.5% in 2025, posting the highest growth among tourism expenditure categories.

In short: Filipinos are not just dreaming about traveling overseas — they are increasingly putting real money behind those plans.

For Cebuana Lhuillier, that spells opportunity.

“Travel has become more than just a leisure activity for many Filipinos. It represents opportunities to reconnect with loved ones, pursue personal aspirations, and explore the world with confidence,” said Jean Henri Lhuillier, President and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier.

“As Filipinos become more globally connected, our mission is to make these opportunities more accessible through competitive rates, secure transactions, and the convenience of our nationwide network,” he added.

Foreign Cash Without the Last-Minute Panic

Anyone who has scrambled for dollars, yen, won, or other currencies days — or even hours — before a flight knows how stressful foreign exchange can get.

Cebuana Lhuillier wants to eliminate that headache through its Click-and-Collect service, which allows customers to reserve selected foreign currencies online and pick them up at their preferred Cebuana Lhuillier branch.

The service gives travelers a simpler way to prepare their travel money ahead of departure instead of gambling on currency availability at the last minute.

But tourists are only part of the growing foreign exchange market.

Filipino entrepreneurs need foreign currency to pay international suppliers. Freelancers handle payments from overseas clients. Students require funds for tuition and expenses abroad. Families also convert remittances sent home by relatives working in other countries.

That means foreign exchange is no longer just a vacation concern — it has become part of the everyday financial lives of increasingly global Filipino consumers.

“Today’s customers expect foreign exchange services to be fast, transparent, and readily available,” said Philippe Andre Lhuillier, Senior Executive Vice President of Cebuana Lhuillier.

“Whether they’re preparing for a trip, paying tuition abroad, or managing international business transactions, they need a trusted partner that offers convenience and competitive rates,” he added.

Cebuana Bets Big on Filipinos Going Global

With decades of experience and one of the country’s widest branch networks, Cebuana Lhuillier is betting its physical reach and increasingly convenient services will give it an advantage as Filipinos become more internationally mobile.

Its pitch is straightforward: competitive rates, secure transactions, convenient currency access, and thousands of touchpoints across the country.

And as more Filipinos save up for that Tokyo getaway, Seoul shopping spree, European vacation, overseas education, or international business deal, the competition for their foreign exchange transactions is only getting hotter.

For Cebuana Lhuillier MoneyXchange, the message is clear:

Before Filipinos fly, study, shop, or do business abroad, it wants to be the first stop for their foreign currency.
