The Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) is set to honor six legendary figures in Philippine cinema at the 8th edition of The EDDYS: The Entertainment Editors’ Choice Awards, to be held on July 20, 2025, at the Marriott Grand Ballroom, Newport World Resorts in Pasay City.
Veteran artists Laurice Guillen, Odette Khan, Perla Bautista, Pen Medina, Rosemarie Gil, and Eddie Mesa will receive the prestigious Movie Icon Award, in recognition of their decades-spanning contributions to Filipino film and their enduring influence on the industry.
“It has long been our tradition to honor the pillars and veterans of the movie industry. In addition to their talent and contributions to Philippine cinema, their legacy continues to inspire both seasoned artists and the new generation of actors,” said SPEEd president Salve Asis in a statement.
Each awardee has carved a distinct legacy in Philippine entertainment:

- Odette Khan — Revered for her commanding screen presence in roles from Anak to Bar Boys.
- Perla Bautista — Icon of Filipino drama, lauded for her award-winning performance in Markang Rehas.
- Pen Medina — A staunch advocate for art and social issues, with roots in theater and critically-acclaimed films.
- Rosemarie Gil and Eddie Mesa — A powerhouse couple; Gil for her iconic villainess roles, and Mesa known as the Philippines’ “Elvis Presley.”
Apart from the Movie Icon citations, the 2025 EDDYS will present 14 competitive awards for artistic and technical excellence, chosen from films released in 2024 across theaters and digital platforms.
SPEEd will also bestow special awards, including:
- Isah V. Red Award – For public service and compassion-driven initiatives
- Joe Quirino Award & Manny Pichel Award – For distinction in entertainment journalism

- EDDYS Box Office Heroes – Highlighting artists vital to the industry’s revival in the post-pandemic era
The ceremony, co-presented by Newport World Resorts, is produced by Brightlight Entertainment under the direction of Pat-P Daza, with Eric Quizon serving as its director. As this year’s awardees take the stage, their legacies remind Filipinos why movies matter and why those who bring them to life deserve to be remembered.
