Security Bank Corporation, in partnership with the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP), gathered Filipino artists from across the country for the inaugural “Paint for the Planet” Art Competition, culminating in an awarding ceremony at the Security Bank Centre in Makati City.
The nationwide call attracted more than 300 submissions, highlighting how art continues to serve as a powerful medium for reflection, dialogue, and action at a time of escalating environmental and climate challenges. Through canvas and color, artists translated urgent global concerns into stories that resonate on a deeply human level.
Anchored on the theme “The Art of Sustainability: People, Planet, and Prosperity,” the competition challenged participants to interpret environmental stewardship, inclusive growth, and shared responsibility. The resulting works explored the delicate balance between progress and preservation, turning complex sustainability issues into compelling visual narratives.
“Sustainability is not just a concept for us—it is central to how we think about progress,” said Tanya Ansaldo-Deakin, First Vice President and Corporate Communications Division Head of Security Bank. “As climate impacts become more tangible—through floods, extreme heat, and weather disruptions—we are reminded that progress must move hand in hand with care for people and the planet. Through your work, you brought that message to life.”
AAP President Fidel Sarmiento echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the broader role of artists in shaping national conversations. He noted that the competition reflects the Filipino artist’s capacity to inspire change and spark meaningful dialogue, adding that creativity can be a powerful force for sustainability and nation-building.
The awarding ceremony honored works that stood out not only for artistic excellence but also for the clarity and strength of their sustainability messages. Clark Manalo took First Place and a PHP200,000 prize for “Holding Harmony,” followed by Nino Cris Odosis with “Unboxing Nature’s Gift,” which earned Second Place and PHP150,000. Third Place went to Edu Perreras for “The Future is in Our Hands,” receiving PHP100,000.
Five artists received Honorable Mentions, each awarded PHP20,000: Ma. Jezshell Nicole Azares for “City in the Garden,” Armando Flaviano for “RE,” Ian Maigan for “Prosperitree,” Johann Padiernos for “Cradled,” and Pedro Velasquez Jr. for “Pag-Asa, Pagbunga ng Likas ng Yaman.” The remaining 12 finalists were also recognized with PHP5,000 each in appreciation of their outstanding contributions.
“The artworks filled our spaces with color, emotion, and hope,” Ansaldo-Deakin added. “At Security Bank, BetterBanking is about putting people at the center—and using our platform to support initiatives that create meaningful impact.”
