The Philippine women’s football team, the Filipinas, will take center stage as the Athletes of the Year for 2025 at the 3rd Women in Sports Awards set on Friday at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
Also set to be recognized are swimmer Angel Mae Otom as Para Athlete of the Year and track standout Brenda Ramos Zinampan, who will receive the Masters award.
Now on its third year, the Women in Sports Awards continues to celebrate outstanding Filipina athletes who have excelled on the national and international stage, while also shining a spotlight on the women leaders, coaches, and advocates helping shape Philippine sports. Previous major honorees included tennis sensation Alex Eala in 2024 and two-time Olympic boxing medalist Nesthy Petecio in 2025.
Philippine Sports Commission commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo said the ceremony, which will confer a total of 83 awards, serves as a powerful platform to push for inclusivity in sports and further strengthen the country’s commitment to gender equality.
“We must really give special attention to our women athletes, including our Para athletes. And not just the athletes and their coaches but those who help build and promote women sports,” said Coo during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at the PSC Media Room.
Coo added that First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos has been invited to lead the presentation of the top awards and to personally receive the distinguished “Ina ng Atletang Pinoy” recognition.
Also expected to grace the occasion are Senators Vicente Sotto III, Bong Go, and Risa Hontiveros, along with Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino, PSC chairman Patrick Gregorio, and commissioners Edward Hayco, Fritz Gaston, and Walter Torres.
“These awards are for those who provide inspiration for all women in sports,” said Coo, a member of both the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame and the World Bowling Hall of Fame.
Widely regarded as the most decorated Filipino athlete, Coo boasts an extraordinary career haul of 78 medals, including 37 golds, along with four world championships and 137 titles.
The awards night is organized by the PSC in partnership with the Philippine Commission on Women, further underscoring the growing movement to recognize excellence, leadership, and empowerment in women’s sports.
