Filinvest-ENGIE Renewable Energy Enterprise Inc. (FREE), a joint venture between the Filinvest Group and ENGIE Services Philippines, has completed a 3-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar rooftop installation for Nexperia Philippines, Inc. at its assembly and testing facility in Cabuyao, Laguna. The project adds to FREE’s expanding portfolio of clean energy solutions for industrial clients and highlights its support for the Philippines’ transition to a low-carbon economy.
Juan Eugenio Roxas, President and CEO of FDC Utilities, Inc. and FREE, spoke during the recent ribbon-cutting ceremony, saying, “This milestone aligns perfectly with Filinvest’s 70th year of empowering Filipino aspirations. With this solar project, we aim to enhance the stability and flexibility of Nexperia’s energy mix while protecting it from grid price fluctuations.”
Installed at Nexperia’s plant in Light Industry and Science Park I, the solar facility is expected to cut thousands of tons of carbon emissions annually, reinforcing Filinvest’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The initiative demonstrates how clean energy innovation can help industries thrive amid rising climate challenges.
“In a sector where even minor power disruptions can impact millions of precision semiconductors, reliability is critical,” Roxas added.
Jean-Baptiste Dreanic, Managing Director of ENGIE Services Philippines, emphasized the value of partnerships in delivering sustainable infrastructure. “This collaboration with Filinvest and Nexperia highlights our joint effort to bring practical, low-carbon solutions to Philippine industries. We’re proud to help forward-thinking companies like Nexperia lead the way in sustainable operations.”
The Nexperia project is part of FREE’s growing renewable energy portfolio, now totaling 17 MWp. This includes notable installations such as a 2.8 MWp rooftop system at Filinvest’s Festival Supermall in Alabang, and clean energy partnerships with APO Cement Corporation and Merasenko Corporation.
Nexperia’s Cabuyao facility, which produces up to a billion semiconductor components annually, depends on a reliable power supply to maintain its high-output operations. The addition of the solar rooftop is expected to reduce the plant’s carbon footprint and energy costs significantly.
Gareth Hughes, Vice President and General Manager of Nexperia Philippines, praised the project’s execution and performance. “We’re seeing excellent results with detailed generation data available by the hour. This installation sets a benchmark within our global network.”
In November 2024, FREE launched its first solar project in Cebu for Merasenko Corporation, a Japanese medical device maker located at the Cebu Light Industrial Park in Lapu-Lapu City.
These initiatives align with the Filinvest Group’s broader goal, through FDC Utilities, to develop a future-ready, balanced energy portfolio that supports national power requirements while accelerating the transition to cleaner and more resilient energy sources.
As Filinvest looks ahead to the next chapter in its legacy, projects like these showcase its continued commitment to purposeful progress. By enabling industries through sustainable energy and building impactful partnerships, Filinvest remains focused on delivering long-term value in an increasingly energy-conscious world.
